Day 22: Osama bin Laden is dead - Monday 2/5
I woke up with the my phone buzzing and my girlfriend skyping. Osama bin Laden is dead. Yep, the biggest terrorist of the past decade is no more. US Speciale forces cleared the job and this was and still is big news. Being in the states when it happened, gives me mixed emotions, because there might be retaliation and the US is in high alert. On the other hand I’ll always remember were I was.
After 3 weeks and a lot of schedule changes, you don’t know which day is which and what you’re doing. You kinda go with flow and see what’s going to happen. After all it is the last week and you can feel that everybody is ready to go home. But today it was like they pulled a rabbit out of a hat and I didn’t see it coming. I had a great vocational experience at Johnston Health. A hospital in Smithesville with around 200 beds. It may not be a big hospital, but day have a huge gym for employees and they have some good parking policies. Security on the other side is not were it should be, but it isn’t their fault. They just can get the funds they need. I guess, like in many hospitals, they are waiting for an event that will shock the hospital board and will free up some money.
Of course their was a social event and we had to doe a presentation. We got cocky, because nothing ever went wrong, but today it wasn’t meant to be. The Computer ran out of power. But we survived.
Speaking about surviving. While riding to Smithesville we almost crashed in the back of a stopped car. Luckily that somebody was paying attention to the road. Guess who... Yep, the one and only, me. I saved the day.
Nick
